Carrick-on-Shannon
Ten minutes drive from Limekiln cottage brings you to Carrick, the
busy county town situated on the upper reaches of the Shannon River.
With its attractive marina, it is a renowned centre for boating and fishing
and holds an annual regatta on the August Bank Holiday weekend, and a
Fishing Festival in September.
You will find most things you need here: banks, the post office, the
doctor, a laundry, restaurants, excellent butchers, and several unassuming
shops that sometimes contain surprising merchandise. There is a large
supermarket just over the bridge. Coffey's Pastry Case on the corner
opposite the Tourist office serves very good scones and is a popular
meeting point.
